Cut From The Cloth: Preview
Ever wondered how a record is made? This is your chance to follow the creative process as I build my record from the ground up. I'll post files during different stages of the recording process and add notes telling you what you are listening to. You can download each song, or subscribe to the podcast and receive updates automatically. If you so desire, you can comment on the process or discuss the album with other subscribers on the message board.
Here is the first batch of tunes. Most of these are scratch takes. Scratch tracks are basic rythm guitar and vocal tracks recorded to a click track (basically a metronome, to keep everyone in time). I'll give these scratch tracks to the drummer and bass player who will work out their parts, and record them to the click track. I will then re-record the vocals and guitars after they lay down the foundation of the song. If you were building a house, these scratch tracks would be the forms in which you pour the foundation. After the foundation is laid, you remove the forms, and build up from there. At least that is the way I am going to work. All the songs are basically arranged and written. The track order has been pretty much decided and is laid out here accordingly. This record has been floating around in my head for a long time now, so I have a pretty good idea of where I am going. Now comes the journey.
