The Tower Bar

Tim Pyles spins on Thursdays at this classic San Diego dive and will be hosting grampadrew on 11/17. There used to be an actual tower. I know, because I climbed it drunk, at two a.m. with a few accomplices.

NEWS
12/06
grampadrew just returned from Europe and is in the studio recording his next record. You can check out sneak previews of the new records at www.myspace.com/grampadrew or on the MP3 page here.
03/21/06
grampadrew made a surprise appearance at SXSW at Poodie's Bar and Grill. Poodie's is an historic honky tonk, run by Willie Nelson's stage manager. grampadrew's secret guest appearance was made at the beginning of a set by San Diego local buzzband Transfer. grampadrew debuted a new song onstage, and was backed by Transfer. Together, they played two grampadrew songs (All I Have, and Could Be) and then grampadrew did a guest vocal on Transfer's "Blaine Osborne". This was a very special appearance and was filmed by D. De La Cruz for an upcoming film documenting Transfer's spring tour. Read grampadrew's blog about this night here.
12/05
grampadrew will be travelling to New York in December and taking Brooklyn by storm at Pete's Candy Store. Opening up for Pete Fitzpatrick of Clem Snide, grampadrew looks forward to spreading his word to the East Coast. Check back for more East Coast dates.
3/05
grampadrew just returned from Austin, Texas for South By Southwest, the largest independent music festival in the world. During his stay, The Truckee Brothers shacked up with him in his hotel room. Read all about it here.
Thanks to Catherine Beeks for sponsoring a great show at Brick By Brick. For photos of grampadrew and the other performers, click here. This was a very cool show. Be sure to catch future Accoustic Alliance Showcases and be prepared to be impressed by the amount of talent San Diego has to offer. Stay tuned for more gigs and get off your ass and go support local music...you'll be glad you did.
In other news, "Alison's Loony Tune" and "Clairvoyant Adventure" are both getting airplay on 91X and FM 94.9. Be sure to call or e-mail Al Guerra ( alguerra@clearchannel.com ) or contact 94.9 here and tell them you want to hear more grampadrew.
FRSD 96.9 FM has added the entire EP to their playlist! You can listen to both these stations online. Just
follow the links. You can also hear streaming audio at indie 911 (a great site, where you hear music free, and the artist gets paid!) and of course, the almost obligitory myspace.com
RANDOM COOLNESS
Check out the poster Maynard did for a show at the Casbah:
poster by Maynard
www.deafbuddah.com
grampadrew is proud to have shared a bill, not only with the Dragons (which turned out to be their second to last show), but on a poster done by Maynard, who is featured in the new book "The Art of Modern Rock". If you like poster art, check Maynard's site out. Buy some stuff. Hire him for your next multi-million dollar ad campaign. Support the man. Oh yeah, and he's doing
grampadrew's stickers as well. Are we sucking up? Well, yeah, but only because he's a damn fine artist, even if his work isn't part of the "fine arts" that some museum snobs hold so high and mighty.
To those snobs, we say "you'll never be as punk as me"!
Who else is cool, you ask?
Listen Local SD
Cathryn Beeks is a musician who runs Listen Local, which showcases San Diego musicians at various venues around town.
The Truckee Brothers
These boys will rock you in a style that is truly all their own. Plus, they run their own studio, record label and have an inbred relation to Atom Orr and Patrick Dennis.
M-Theory Music
The coolest record store in town. And guess what? They have their own record label too!
Can a mortgage company be punk rock? I don't know. Do you really want it to be? I think honest integrity is the real key, and these guys have it. A rarity in any industry.
All of the above people represent a DIY spirit that is personally inspiring. Support them whenever and wherever you can!
